So
here we are , winter is well and truly upon us! Darker days, frosty
mornings and everyone going nuts about Crimbo…… Yes it is in full swing
;-)
So we need to be looking at how to protect ourselves during
this hectic time. In the winter our bodies want to naturally hibernate.
If we go back in time we would see that after dark we were not out and
about working, socialising, going to the gym or eating big heavy
meals….It was too dark! We would be snuggled up by a fire, keeping warm
and sleeping. Our work for the day was done. Well, not so in today’s
world. We run 24/7 365 days of the year and we expect our bodies to keep
up.
This is outside of natural laws and stressful for our bodies but
since life is not going to stop we need to support ourselves the best we
can.
For optimum wellness is it advisable to stick to natures laws as closely as possible, so in the winter this means:
- Getting all our work and running around done during daylight hours as much as is feasible.
- Having our main meal at lunchtime or at least during daylight hours so that it is easier to digest.
- More sleep and time spent contemplating the past year; lessons we have learned, what we want to take forward into the new year and what we want to leave behind.
- Wrap up warm and get outside for half an hour a day to stock up on vitamin D and fresh air.
- Eating more warming, seasonal foods such as soups and stews made with root vegetables, pulses and spices.
This is a time to just take a step back and really nurture ourselves and loved ones.
Over
the coming weeks I will be looking at ways to keep us sane and healthy
over winter so that we can really enjoy all that it has to offer!
